Tap to Pay on iPhone for salons, barbers and mobile therapists

Take a card or phone payment at the chair, at the client's door or in a treatment room, with nothing to carry but your iPhone. No reader to buy, charge or lose.

How it works

  1. Finish the appointment and open the payment in Hopaby.
  2. The client holds a contactless card, or a phone or watch with a wallet set up, near the top of your iPhone.
  3. The payment goes through in a moment and Hopaby marks the appointment paid.

What you need

  • An iPhone that supports Tap to Pay on iPhone. In general that means an iPhone XS or later on a current version of iOS; Apple keeps the list.
  • The Hopaby app, signed in to your business.
  • No extra hardware.

What it costs

A card payment taken in person costs 3% on pay as you go, with no monthly fee, or 1.75% + 20p on Pro at £29 a month. Texts are 5p a part on pay as you go and 4p on Pro. No VAT is charged. See worked examples.

What your client sees

A prompt on your phone asking them to hold their card or phone near it, and a confirmation when it is done. Most contactless payments need nothing more; a larger one may ask them for their PIN on your phone.
