How we compared: we read Cliniko’s public pages, listed below, and recorded each figure with the plan it applies to. We left out introductory offers and trials. Where a page does not give a figure we say so rather than guess. Where prices differ by plan, the plan is named.
A worked month
A solo practitioner taking £5,000 a month by card across 100 appointments of £50 each, with no new-client fees to pay on either side. This is not a like-for-like total: Cliniko’s price covers the software only, and does not include whatever you pay a card provider to take payments, while Hopaby’s figure includes card fees. Texts are left out on both sides. We assume one card payment per booking; a deposit plus a balance would be two payments and two per-transaction fees.

What Cliniko does well
- Practice management built for clinics: appointments, patient records and notes in one place, widely used by physios and other allied health practitioners.
- Simple pricing by number of practitioners, with a 30-day trial and no minimum term.
- Support by email and a help centre, and links to third-party apps that connect to Cliniko, each with its own fees.
What Cliniko does that Hopaby doesn’t
- Clinical notes, treatment notes and patient records. Hopaby is a diary and payments app, not a records system.
- Body charts and other clinical templates.
- Insurer invoicing and the paperwork clinics need for it.
Moving from Cliniko to Hopaby
What moves
- Client names, contact details and appointment dates, by CSV or typed in.
- Your services, session lengths and prices.
- Future appointments, re-entered by hand or imported where your export allows.
What stays behind
- Clinical notes, treatment records and body charts stay in Cliniko. Hopaby does not store them, so keep Cliniko or another records system for these.
- Insurer invoicing stays with Cliniko or another system that does it.
- Any connected apps you use with Cliniko do not move with you.
The steps
- Decide whether you want Hopaby for the diary and payments alongside your records system, or in place of a diary you only use for bookings.
- Set up Hopaby with your services and prices, and import your client list.
- Run both for a fortnight: take new bookings and deposits on Hopaby while Cliniko carries on holding your records.
- Keep Cliniko for as long as you need its records; cancel it only when you have somewhere else for them.
You do not have to switch in a day. Run both for a fortnight, and close Cliniko only when its diary is empty.

How much does Cliniko cost in the UK?
Cliniko’s pricing page lists US dollars only: $45 a month for one practitioner and $95 for two to five, with 10 cents a text. It does not give a pound price, so what you pay depends on the exchange rate on the day. Checked 29 October 2026.
Is there a Cliniko alternative with an app?
Hopaby is a phone app for the diary, deposits and payments. It is not a full alternative: it has no clinical notes, body charts or insurer invoicing, so many clinics would use it alongside a records system rather than instead of one.
Does Cliniko take card payments or deposits?
Neither is listed on Cliniko’s public pricing page, checked 29 October 2026. Ask Cliniko what its connected apps offer.
Can Hopaby replace Cliniko for a physio?
Not for patient records. Hopaby covers bookings, deposits and card payments; clinical notes, body charts and insurer invoicing stay with Cliniko or an equivalent.
